Legal ServicesHead of Recruitment
Keller assisted a rapidly expanding law group in finding a new Head of Recruitment who could establish the first in-house talent acquisition function. The search required extensive legal industry expertise, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the market insight to build a sustainable pipeline in a challenging legal market.
The client is a Seattle-based family law firm that is rated as a Tier 1 practice in the Washington State market. Over the course of more than three years of strong growth, the firm has expanded from a small founding team to over 30 staff with a strong regional presence. The firm is also busy developing a platform that expands beyond legal services to include educational media through a dedicated YouTube channel and professional podcast studio. The firm’s practice area is an emotionally demanding and relationship-driven one, and its reputation is continually built on client advocacy and legal excellence. The firm had grown to a size where its approach to talent needed to evolve alongside its ambitions.
External recruitment partners had handled talent acquisition as the firm grew. Utilizing this model had been suitable for earlier stages of growth, but it had become clear that the firm had strategically outgrown this recruitment process. It was a natural progression to develop an in-house function that would bring recruitment closer to the firm’s culture, plant deeper roots in the Washington State legal community, and create a sustainable long-term approach to talent. The incoming Head of Recruitment would be the firm’s first dedicated internal talent professional and would be responsible for building the infrastructure from the ground up, developing processes, building a pipeline for family law attorneys, and developing relationships across the Seattle legal market.
The position required an exceptional entrepreneurial profile. The right person had to be highly self-directed, have an instinct for the culture of family law, and bring a clean slate in a field of work defined by emotional complexity and high professional standards. The role additionally involved employer branding exercises through the firm’s professional media assets such as its podcast and YouTube studio, to attract talent and reinforce its reputation as an employer of choice. The firm was flexible on title but clear on caliber. It needed a working manager with the vision to grow a team as the function matured.
The search was conducted on a retained basis to identify talent acquisition professionals with extensive legal industry experience and a track record of building out staffing operations. Technical recruiting capability was assessed on factors such as independence, adaptability, and deep sector familiarity. A multi-stage process of video screening and direct meetings with the firm’s leadership ensured a rigorous assessment of professional credentials and cultural fit with a high-growth, media-active law practice.
A focused search resulted in a Head of Recruitment being placed with the law group. The appointee had the legal industry experience, entrepreneurial mindset, and Seattle market knowledge the position required. The appointment was confirmed and became effective in January 2026.
With a dedicated leader at the helm of internal recruitment, the growing law firm now has the platform to build a talent acquisition function that reflects its culture and scales with its continued success. The new Head of Recruitment has the legal market relationships, employer branding capabilities, and independent operating style required to build a strong pipeline of family law attorneys and support staff, allowing the firm to compete for top legal talent on its own terms. This appointment is the transition from reactive hiring to a proactive, strategic talent operation for a practice that has grown rapidly and continues to expand.
